The Salvation. I feel like Mads Mikkelsen’s face was just begging to be put in a Western. This one sometimes feels like it was assembled from a western-movie kit, but has some really good moments – I particularly like the conversation with the priest in the jail, the parallel funerals, and a silent escape on a train.
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Pretty to look at (reminded me of how I felt about Iron Man 2). Seemed like Tatum was a little bored?
Ronin. You know how, according to me, Haywire is a smart dumb action movie? This is kind of a dumb dumb action movie. But it’s still got fun. Was this really only 14 years ago? Ebert’s review sums it up well.
Brazil. A daydreaming bureaucrat muddles through a dysfunctional future that seems crippled more by pervasive triplicate than any central evil. It’s not perfect, but it is absurd and entertaining. Jonathan Pryce is excellent.
