I'm taking much earlier bedtimes now that I'm a parent. It's kinda nice, if only because the times when I stay up "late" have an extra thrill that I took for granted before. It feels naughty again. It's fun!
I like how much experimentation comes with parenting. Tweak this schedule, adjust that, see if the other thing will work. A constant stream of imperfection insists its way into my life, but I can always try something different.
Books
Dakota: A Spiritual Geography. DNF, but I liked what I read.
Meetings with Remarkable Manuscripts: Twelve Journeys Into the Medieval World, by Christopher de Hamel. This one is likely headed to DNF, too, but I've enjoyed the initial samples, and I could see it being one I circle back to later. The warm enthusiasm leaps off the page.
Vaim, by Jon Fosse. I've just started. Not sure if the schtick is enough to sustain but will keep going for a bit.
Running
Saturday morning long run was healing.
Around the Web
"The point of personal sites is to be a node in a network. You don’t want the journey to end there. You want to help people move and go to different places."
"Authenticity Slop. It’s the next big thing, and it’s going to get very, very annoying."
Driverless Vehicles Should Replace the School Bus.
The School Apps Are Out of Control.
TopoView, cool USGS mapping site with easy flipping between their maps from earlier generations. (via)
Music
A few more from Ashe, just to be completist with my listening last week...
- with Finneas, The Favors, Willson
- The Dream. I'm into "Home Sweet Home".
- The Girl of Your Dreams. "Love Bomb is a fun one.
Glenn Gould, A Consort of Musicke Bye William Byrde and Orlando Gibbons.
Bach! Cantatas BWV 4, 12, 67, 79, 108, 127, 137, 140, & 160, perf. Orchestra of the Münchener Staatsoper cond. Karl Richter. They're all great. :)
Loidis, From the Toolkit of Lovers. Straightforward headphone electronics.
Movies
Straight Talk. Dolly still has her charm but it lands better in a more limited role in 9 to 5, with talented peers carrying the show more. This felt a bit strained.
TV
The X-Files, s7e5 "Rush". Deeply malevolent high schoolers, always unsettling.
